What is the 1st and most important thing to start a porn site? Either gay or straight
Many folks end up wanting to launch their own porn sites. The first few things people will look for information on are the hosting service, the adult website theme, or planning the idea of how the site should work. No, don’t do that until you solve the biggest problem of them all. Because if you can’t solve this one detail, all of those things you have been doing won’t be able to be put into use. You will have to figure out the credit card processor on the backend as a priority.
When I built my own site, edgethatguy.com, I approached the process backwards, thinking that the final steps would be straightforward. I dove in, spending months on design and research, selecting a niche domain name, purchasing a site theme, and choosing a hosting service. In the end, all my effort nearly went to waste.
Nowadays, many people want to do porn. It’s not just fun; you can earn quite a lot if you do it right. While using adult website platforms like OnlyFans, Just4Fans, or ForMyFans can make things easier, this convenience comes with its own downside.
Why Some Want To Move Away from Adult Website Platforms
First off, let’s talk about why someone might want to ditch adult web platforms like OnlyFans, Just4Fans, etc.
There are a ton of restrictions when using shared service platforms. One major issue is the hefty commission they take from your earnings. If you’re a subscriber, you might not realize that these platforms usually take around 20% of every penny you spend as a processing fee. Even those tips you send to your favorite creators will also get hit with deductions. These fees aren’t uniform across platforms. Be warned, though, some adult web platforms that have low commission, like Fansmine or Myvipfans, have quite a bad reputation on the trustworthy side. Those that are legit and on a good run mostly settle at 20%.
Understanding High Processing Fees in adult site
So, why are these fees so high? It’s not entirely the fault of the website platforms. Credit card processing companies charge about 10-20% right off the bat. On top of that, the platforms add another 5-10%.
The high processing fees for adult website transactions mainly stem from a high volume of fraudulent transactions, both real and fake. In a normal daily life’s transaction, fees typically range from 3-5%. But in high-risk industries like porn, they can soar to 10-20% because of the numerous chargebacks from banks. When someone claims their card was used without permission for these sites, banks tend to side with their customers. Once that decision is made, the money has to go back to the original cardholder, racking up a lot of transaction fees. This is the excuse processors use to justify their steep charges.

When a chargeback occurs on an OnlyFans account, you’ll see a reversed transaction, and that user’s account will be blocked. I’m not sure if they have measures to stop the same fraudulent accounts from opening a new account and using the same trick again. Creators have voiced complaints about chargebacks happening way too often on their accounts. If I remember correctly, once I saw Roman Todd’s tweet, cursing one guy that kept subscribing to his account, leeching the content, getting blocked, creating a new account, and subscribing again.
payment methods when Starting Your Own Porn site
If you want to avoid the massive fees that these adult platforms take from your earnings and create your own porn website, you still need to deal with credit card processing companies that charge around 10-20% as well. These fees depend on various factors, like the number of transactions you expect (the more transactions, the lower the fee).
In some places, like the US, you’ll need a merchant account to register with payment gateway or payment processor. All the famous credit card processors for porn website such as CCBill, Verotel, Vendo, and Segpay all require this. To get a merchant account, you must have a registered company, at least an LLC (Limited Liability Company). Setting up an LLC can be pretty pricey and, truth be told, quite a headache. I have tried.
In many Asian countries, credit card processors usually outright refuse to work with you if you’re in the adult business. Indian processors could be an option and few cases you don’t even need merchant account, but honestly, who would want to use a credit card if you are about to charge their money from somewhere in India? Plus, you’d be stressed about it, worrying if you would get the money. This leaves you with limited choices. There’s one option in Brazil that might work for local and South America country based, but the fees are still around 20%.
When you want to do research on this, simply find websites that allow you to build your own porn site from their platform and trace back to the payment gateway they use. For example, onnowplay.com, which serves mainly in Brazil, has their own platform built and linked with payment gateway. You just need to track and see which provider they are using.
Or you can go directly to a porn website in your own country. For example, in Japan, you might visit hunk-ch.com and try to buy something, then see the payment gateway on the payment page. In some cases, it shows a part or parts of the URL. Or that porn website might just list the name out directly. Try to find this info on their refund page, as the site will not be involved in the refund process but will ask you to contact the payment gateway directly.
The reason why I recommend tracking down the payment gateway instead of going directly to contact the payment processor is that you don’t need a merchant account if that payment gateway has merchant acquiring services.
Payment gateways are easy to find for non-adult businesses. Shopify, PrestaShop, Magento, WooCommerce, or Wix have the payment gateway built in. So when you build the website, you can simply connect your site with their payment gateway via a plugin and use whatever payment processor they have to charge the customer. But most of these sites will not accept high-risk businesses such as porn.
So that’s why it’s a problem when you want to start your own porn site. There are ways to go around it, using some tricks and creativity, which I’ll write about in the next blog.
LET’S DO SOME EXERCISE ON HOW TO FIND A CLUE TO YOUR PORN SITE PAYMENT
Let’s find some sites that might be beneficial for the people who live outside the USA.

Eastboys.com: This site features sexy Eastern European and Latino boys. When you go to the checkout page, the site redirects to secure.vend-o.com. After a quick Google search, I found the service website (https://vendoservices.com) which seems to be based in the UK.
This doesn’t look like something everyone can use. I would guess from reading the few contents on the site it would require you to fill in a KYB form or have a merchant account. However, if you do, then that becomes a potential alternative choice for you.
And for people who live somewhere else, like in Asia, this shouldn’t be the site you look at in the first place. Try to find studio porn that originates or has an address in your country or at least close to it.
If you really can’t find any, try the escort service or online casino site in your country, and that will get you the closest.

Jawked.com: An interesting site that has models from all over the world. I see my friend in France and also one in South America starring in it. Although the registered address is in Miami, it’s worth checking out.
It seems they have 3 different payment gateways. One is the famous CCbill. And if the customer decides to use PayPal, they have Epoch set up as the middleman. Then the 3rd option, if you choose to pay by Visa, will direct to Rocketgate, a site I have never heard of before. After checking the site and registered address, it belongs to Puerto Rico.

Now that is interesting. Since CCbill can cover all the charges anyway, then the reason for having a backup payment gateway for Visa is probably because of the lower fee they charge.

crunchboy.com: This is a true French gay site. Ahh…I love French guys. They have something about them that is so sexy to me. Never have better experiences in a gay sauna more than Sun City!
Ok, back to the topic. The payment page directs you to this payment gateway (studiopresse.com). The location is also based in Paris.
Studio Presse SARL, BP 6444, 75064 Paris Cedex 02
So this is quite tempting if you are a French creator and looking for something local.
PAYMENT GATEWAY is not the same as PAYMENT PROCESSOR

Earlier, you might have been confused when I swapped the terms from payment processor to payment gateway. To provide an easy summary, think of a gateway as a door, and when you open that door, inside the room are a few different processors.
So, one payment gateway can be set up so it can work with different payment processors. Segpay, which I listed above, also accepts PayPal as a payment option. This means Segpay, in this case, acts as a payment gateway, and PayPal is the payment processor. However, if we are just talking about PayPal itself, you can also pay directly through PayPal from most websites (not adult sites, please do not try, or you’ll get your account and money frozen), so PayPal itself is also considered a payment gateway if you use PayPal as a check out option directly from the source.
Finding a payment gateway is easier than finding a payment processor. If you can find a website that has built-in credit card payment for you to use as a service, that’s the gateway. Whether that website itself will be the processor or not, that’s another story. So, when looking around the porn site I mentioned above, the goal is for you to find at least the gateway that they are using. When doing online transactions, you will need to meet the payment gateway first, then the payment processor will be behind that.
Alternative Solutions for Payment gateway for your porn site
While there are some unconventional ways to navigate these challenges, they take a lot of time and luck to figure out.
Your own country probably has some payment gateway that service an inventory-type of business as well. Basically, if you are running a business and you want to set up credit card payments but don’t know how, you can use their service. They will process the transactions for you.
And if you sell products in the store, they will have a back office that links your site to their inventory website. From there, you match products on your site with their inventory system. When matching a video with them, instead of using the video title name like ‘Worship Kito Rip Body’, you can create a baseless item name such as ‘K11’, as that would appear on their end. Then you can create an order, invoice, and send the email to collect money as such.
These companies don’t audit their client accounts as much. A few of my friends successfully set up an account and linked it as a backend processor without them knowing what kind of goods or services my friend sells. Again, problems will only occur if you start to have a huge number of chargebacks happen.
Another popular method, similar to how online casinos and some Forex trading companies operate in some countries, is using third-party companies as intermediaries between you and your clients. The funds go to their processing company account, and they will arrange for someone in your country to transfer your earnings to you on a set schedule. These services are usually based in the import-export industry. Some money exchange companies also use these tactics. I know for a fact that one particular Forex trading company in my country used to sends money via a sugar palm company.
If you check the payment options on OnlyFans, it will show options you can choose to withdraw money, and everyone will be different depending on the country you are in. As for my account, I have options for wire transfer or using a certain service provider. One of the providers uses the same method I mentioned above, and I’ll receive the money from a third-party person who lives in my country. Each time will be a different name. It’s almost untraceable, really.
However, I worry that if I mention the name of such a service, it could vanish in a few months, and I’d be blamed for it. Cursing by everyone. So, do your own research with some keywords I mentioned earlier.
There Is Still Hope For anyone who want to own a porn site
If none of these platforms fit your needs, moving out and creating your own porn site is a good plan. But first, you have to tackle the credit card processing issue. Once you have that sorted, we can dive into other concerns like hosting services, where to buy website themes, and more. I’ll cover that later as well.
Good news for anyone feeling lost and frustrated about credit card processing: there are still ways to make it work. This includes using Bitcoin or payment links combined with some smart ideas like email, and simply ending up with PayPal. Or you may find some unique and creative way to use coupon codes combined with your subscription business plan as well.
I’ll write a few articles about these soon. Stay tuned.
Content Limitations on Adult Platforms site such as onlyfans
I want to emphasize that the high commission fee isn’t the only reason many creators are looking to set up their own porn sites. Some adult platforms have strict limits on the content you can share. For example, OnlyFans has some mind-boggling rules.
- No filming in public places.
- You can’t show poppers or drug use in your videos. I once edited a 40-minute video where a guy took out poppers for 15 seconds. I missed that while editing, as I didn’t watch the whole video back and forth. Yet, OnlyFans still gave me a warning. Dude, did they watch my video and jerk off while approving it?
- Kinks are fine, but if you introduce any violence, like whipping your partner, the video might get taken down.
- No filming sleeping scenes; the person has to be fully awake. I staged a scene where the guy pretended to sleep, but he woke up halfway through. That video was taken down. To avoid this, that guy must state at the beginning of the video that it’s staged and that he’s willingly being filmed.
- When posting a description, you can’t use some words like “meet” because they don’t want their platform used for escort services. Clever, right? Because you can just type “me-et,” and it would work, duh! The word “choke,” as in choke my cock, is also a no-go.
Not every platform has the same rules. JustForFans, for instance, is way less strict than OnlyFans. There are tons of platforms popping up these days, and I can’t keep track of all their rules.
And talk about the quality of the videos as well. Some platforms, again let’s use OnlyFans as an example, limit the video resolution to 1280 x 720. So even if you have 4k resolution for the fans to watch, once it’s uploaded, all that quality is gone. Admittedly, the video rendering of OnlyFans does quite an amazing job. I notice the difference in the lower resolution is quite little to no difference at all.
So, you might have 1920 x 1080 and upload to OnlyFans and get 1280 x 720, yet it has little difference in quality. But what about if the original file is 3840 x 2160? Then it will start to feel different when watching both videos in comparison. Having your own website can have this benefit. And your fans will appreciate the high quality of your work as well. You will start to realize this shit does indeed matter when you start to edit video yourself. I’ll also cover about the editing video program and some key points as well. Stay tune!
Leave comments or questions below, I’ll try to help if I can.
Whoa!
I think it’s understandable to want to move out of an environment that doesn’t work for you. Wish you luck with this project, the videos are truly great, so I hope you’re successful!
Just a heads-up, after posting the comment above, I got a critical error, and it redirected me to WordPress FAQ Troubleshooting. Not sure whether it’s an issue on my end, but thought letting you know might be beneficial. Cheers!
Yeah, it seems it happens whenever I post a comment. There’s a white screen with:
There has been a critical error on this website.
Learn more about troubleshooting WordPress.
But the comment gets posted anyway, so I guess it’s not really that critical. Hopefully this thread helps in some capacity. Cheers!
Great advice
